About The Position
As a Medical-Surgical Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide specialized nursing care to pediatric patients who require medical and surgical treatment. Working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will deliver compassionate care, monitor patient progress, and educate patients and families about pediatric health conditions and treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Care Delivery:
Perform comprehensive assessments of pediatric patients, including physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and evaluation of medical history.
Develop and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings, medical orders, and nursing standards.
Medication Administration and Management:
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accuracy in dosage, route, and timing.
Monitor patients for medication side effects and adverse reactions, taking appropriate action as necessary.
Wound Care and Surgical Support:
Provide post-operative care and wound management for pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.
Monitor surgical incisions, assess wound healing progress, and educate patients and families on post-operative care instructions.
Patient and Family Education:
Educate patients and caregivers about pediatric health conditions, treatments, and procedures.
Provide guidance on disease prevention, nutrition, medication administration, and developmental milestones.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with pediatricians, surgeons, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and treatment plans.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, addressing concerns and providing updates on patient progress.
Emergency Response and Critical Care:
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and changes in patients' conditions, providing urgent care and life-saving interventions as needed.
Maintain proficiency in pediatric resuscitation protocols and emergency procedures.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
Ensure compliance with documentation standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
Patient Advocacy and Support:
Advocate for patients' rights and preferences, ensuring informed consent and involvement in decision-making.
Provide emotional support to patients and families, addressing their psychosocial needs and promoting a positive healthcare experience.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a current RN license.
Experience: Previous experience in pediatric nursing or medical-surgical nursing preferred.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required depending on employer and patient population.
Skills: Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple patients, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
