Job Description:
We are seeking a highly adaptable and experienced Emergency Department / Med-Surg Registered Nurse (RN) to float between two dynamic units in a hospital setting. This unique position requires a versatile RN who thrives in both fast-paced emergency environments and structured inpatient care settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients in both the Emergency Department and Med-Surg units.
Quickly assess and triage patients presenting to the ED with acute medical needs.
Deliver patient care for a variety of medical/surgical conditions, maintaining a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
Administer medications, monitor vital signs, initiate IVs, and perform wound care.
Respond to emergencies using ACLS, PALS protocols as needed.
Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth transitions between departments.
Document all care accurately and promptly in Cerner EMR.
Requirements:
Active RN license in the state of Illinois (or compact if applicable)
Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience (ED or Med-Surg)
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS – Required
TNCC preferred (but not mandatory)
Must be comfortable floating between Emergency and Med-Surg departments
Strong clinical assessment, multitasking, and communication skills
