Job Description: Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to join our estimating team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience preparing accurate and competitive estimates for roadway, utility, earthwork, and bridge construction projects. Familiarity with DOT (Department of Transportation) projects is a strong plus.
This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can analyze plans, specifications, and other project documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects
Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate bids
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to gather pricing
Perform quantity take-offs and prepare scopes of work
Assist with value engineering and risk assessment
Support the handoff to the project management team after successful bids
Stay up to date on industry trends, pricing, and local market conditions
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
Experience with roadway, utility, earthwork, and bridge projects
Familiarity with DOT project requirements and specifications (preferred)
Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam)
Excellent analytical and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred
